Our site is a year old today!
One year ago today we launched our stand-alone website!
Before I took the plunge in website design BΛTHVS was lost in the very competitive sea of Etsy. If you’re not familiar with Etsy, it’s a handmade market where independent creatives can share their skills with the world. You can get just about anything there as long as it is handmade, vintage, or a material/supply for creation. Etsy has changed a lot over the years though, and a lot of those changes aren’t for the better for the creator. Their rules became very relaxed in some areas and many items are just cheaply mass produced, while at other times they can be ridiculously strict with independent makers. Their bottom line became more important than the the “little guys”, aka small independent creators.
We’re still on Etsy these days, but only with our niche solid haircare products. All of our soaps, etc. are solely on the website rather than Etsy, as there is just too many body care specialists in that market. It’s not that we didn’t stand out there (with the right search terms of course), but we couldn’t really shine properly either. Our products got drowned out by the many other thousands of handmade products, and our branding never looked right among the orange Etsy logo always glaring from each product page. At some point every business and person needs to just take the plunge and try something new, even if you’re not quite sure how to achieve it, you will learn with practice. Here at BΛTHVS, that “something new” was figuring out how to build a proper website.
It’s great to now have a website that makes the products stand out better than ever, with everything cohesive and crisp. For someone who finds the site, it’s a lot easier for them to understand what we are about. There’s more of an opportunity to have better relationships with those who use our products since they can read and see what we are doing, especially here on the blog.
Since the launch of the new website, we’ve seen an amazing 40,000 visitors on this site and have shipped to so many cool places! Hopefully soon we can figure out an accurate way to calculate shipping internationally since many have expressed interest in buying our products in other countries.
Check out all of the places we have shipped in the US! We still have some work to do out west, but each and every week we are shipping to a handful of new cities!
It’s very uplifting to see how far our reach has been during the last year! We can’t wait to see how our reach continues to expand as we continue to grow!
